NEWSLETTERS / NUUSBRIEWE
9 March 2010
Last
week Thursday we received the school’s results regarding the 2009 National Grade 6 Literacy and Numeracy
tests. This is available to anyone who
has access to the web site of the Western Cape Department of Education. What a
pleasant surprise for us to see that for the first time since the inception of
these tests the Department rates your school in the top category: excellent. We
have a strong belief in our academic standards, the work our teachers do and
the skills of our learners, but this rating is truly a very proud achievement.
Briefly the average %’s as follows: (the
full report is with the principal and senior staff)
1. Literacy: The Heldeberg region : 42.4
The Province : 48.6
Hendrik Louw : 86.8
2.
Numeracy: The Helderberg region : 16.0
The Province : 17.4
Hendrik Louw : 77.4
--
Be proud of your school, appreciate us with our mistakes. Thank you.
Please
diarize: Academic feedback regarding your child’s school work this term. On
Wednesday evening 24 March all our teachers would like to spend a few minutes
(maximum 10 minutes) with as many parents as possible. Staff will notify you if
they would like you to pop in, even if you are not notified you are still
welcome to attend the evening. Appointments are not necessary. Walk in and wait
for the 10 minute talk. All grades (R to 7) convene in the school hall. We
shall arrange tables and chairs for all - high school style. Teachers will be
in the hall from 18:00 to 21:00. Parents
are welcome to liaise with a teacher earlier in the afternoon after the end of
the school day if this is more convenient for you. We view this communication
in a serious light.
FUNDRAISER:
We use this opportunity to express a very sincere and appreciative THANK YOU to
our parents, learners and staff for the once again very successful project
which we know was held in tough times for our families. It is heart-warming to
see the efforts, the enthusiasm, the dedication and the sacrifices made by so
many for the school we all love and serve. All the stats regarding prizes and
winners were given to you in the special fundraiser newsletter last Friday.
We’re probably the only school in the Helderberg that can successfully pull off
a project like this at the present time and this says a whole lot about the
quality of our school community --- well done!!
Sport
evening for the learners and parents of the winter codes: Netball / Rugby /
Hockey: Thursday 18 March. We look forward to seeing you at the talk in the
school hall as well as the ‘family kuier’ thereafter on the sport fields - HL
en masse enjoying themselves, always a great sight. The Sport Office will be
sending out detail regarding numbers, etc. this week.
Best
wishes to our athletes who this afternoon will be participating in the 6 school
Huizemark athletics meeting at Strand High School. This is the last big
athletics get-together for the season before the focus shifts to the winter
codes.
Congratulations
to the following learners who will be participating in the South African
Tug-0’War Championships in Worcester on 19 and 20 March. This is a very proud

Whole
school survey: Every 3 or 4 years we conduct a whole school survey where we ask
parents, teachers and senior learners to evaluate the school, its operations,
our senior management, and various other aspects of school life. The survey
forms have been completed and will be given to various persons on Wednesday 17
March. All learners in grades 6 & 7 and all staff will participate. We
shall randomly select about 200 parents from all the grades and give the forms
to those learners on the Wednesday for you to complete at home. No names needed
when completing the forms. The survey form will also be on the school’s web
site for any parent to complete. If you do not receive a form, and you would
like to participate, please collect one
at reception on Wednesday,17 March. The assessment of all the returned and
completed forms will be managed by our governing council chairman, the vice-chairperson and two secretaries.
Senior staff are not involved. The results are very important to us and will be
dealt with during term's two and three so that we as a team can hopefully make
this already good school an even better functioning learning centre for you and
your child. We ask for honesty, openness and objectivity when completing the
forms.
EASTER
EGG project: the Strand Lions Club haS
asked if every learner in the school could bring an easter egg or two to
school which they WILL THEN distribute
to children in need. Please support this project if you can and send the eggs

2 March 2010
With
the summer now behind us and the first signs of autumn looming on the horizon, the
focus at school is slowly switching to the winter code programme and planning.
The sport office will liaise with the parents of learners doing rugby / netball / hockey next week, but we ask you to diarize the
SPORT evening here at school on Thursday 18 March. We look forward to seeing as
many HL families as possible!
FUNDRAISER
– “ over and done with for another year”
Thank
you, HL parents and learners. We’re busy
with the big count. The prize winners and amount raised will be announced this
Friday. All learners will receive a
special newsletter edition on Friday with the relevant statistics. Well done!
Last
week Friday the following senior prefects were announced for 2010:
Head Girl –
Melissa Malan
Head Boy –
Gustav Kirstein
Head prefects –
Chadé Levendal, Wian Fourie, Derick Hall, Henry Visser. Elzaan Kuün, Amy
Johannes, Taryn Hartley and Lara Posthumus.
The
prefects are engaging in a charity project next term: Pebbles. We’re
encouraging them to commit time and energy to healthy outreaches. Our local
emergency services will also be spoilt this year. These learners will also be
planting a very special and rather biggish tree at the school this term – a
wonderful gesture. Below is a short exposé regarding the process embarked upon
when choosing learner leaders:
1. Senior learners vote for candidates of
their choice,
2. Staff vote for candidates of their
choice,
3. Independent outside facilitators observe
learners at a camp / outdoor excursion and recommend names to the school with
motivations,
4. Learners dr, under the leadership of the
principal, assess all the information received and objectively debate the
merits of all the possible candidates,
5. A reasonable observation period is then
given to all the grade 7 staff to observe learners' leadership skills,
behaviour and other skills,
6. The principal and the teachers concerned
with senior leadership development make the final decision which has now been
conveyed to you.
Exciting
news for our modern day working parents: The governing body has in principle
tasked the principal to investigate the possibility of converting HL into a
one-stop school offering more to our parents by way of aftercare, homework
classes, remedial help, a good lunch, classes for 4 and 5 year olds, improved
sport opportunities, etc. , all at the school in an extended day. In short, you
drop your child at school, we provide a full service at a reasonable fee, you
collect late afternoon with schoolwork complete. The remaining time of the day
is for the family. We’ll research and give feedback next term.
Best
wishes to:
1. Our U/9 mini-cricketers for the BIG
festival on Saturday morning 6 March,
2. Our two 7-a-side rugby teams for the
Friday night 5 March tournament,
3. Our athletes striving for higher
honours:
This
year there is always going to be something happening here at school. The focus
is on enjoyment and fun and happy moments together for parents and learners
alike:
Tickets
go on sale tomorrow:
1. The long-awaited concert in the school
hall with the very popular South African singer ARNO JORDAAN the main
attraction. Friday night 16 April at 19:00. He was a stunning hit in the town
hall last year with our choirs. We endeavour good music, lots of vibe and
sing-a-long songs. Our choirs will again
be doing a number or three with him. Great for our learners. Please do not
delay regarding the buying of tickets as sales will be limited. This is a great
opportunity for the whole family to come along and to enjoy! Adults = R50, HL
learners = R30, choir members attend free of charge.
2. The very special morning tea with the
humorous and down-to-earth Elsabe Aldrich – a truly inspiring motivational
speaker, along with Arno Jordaan who will add spice to the morning programme
with a few songs, promises to be somethng special. Saturday morning 17 April in
the church hall of the NG Moederkerk at 10:00. This is for mothers, their
friends and daughters. Do not miss this memorable occasion which will prove
enriching. Tickets @ R30 p.p.
Hendrik
Louw parents often wait too long to buy tickets and then suffer disappointment
when the sold-out signs go up. Please make sure that you buy before the
holidays then you know you’re fine. You are most welcome to tell your friends.
Sales
at the office of the bursar. You may either buy in person, send the money with
your child or make an internet payment (reference: ARNO and the name/surname of
your child). We shall give the tickets to your child once we see the amount
reflected on our statement. Phone send enquiries to Anneke / Angela at 021
8531045 ext 4.

THANK

A full house and a waiting queue. It was a real pleasure to talk to and greet
so many loyal and supportive parent faces at the Spur. We really enjoy seeing
and being with parents and children at informal gatherings of this nature. May
you all enjoy a blessed week!

as moontlik HL-gesinne hier te sien!
FONDSINSAMELING
– “afgehandel : voltooi !”
Baie
Welgedaan!!
Verlede
Vrydag is die volgende senior prefekte
vir 2010 aangekondig:
Hoofdogter – Melissa Malan
Hoofseun – Gustav Kirstein
Hoofprefekte – Chadé Levendal, Wian
Fourie, Derick Hall, Henry Visser, Elzaan Kuün, Amy Johannes, Tarryn Hartley
& Lara Posthumus.
skoolgronde plant. – ‘n wonderlike gebaar. Kortliks die volgende oor die proses
van kies/keuring van die leerderleiers:
1. Senior leerders stem vir kandidate van
hul keuse,
2. Personeel stem vir kandidate van hul
keuse,
3. Onafhanklike buite-fasiliteerders neem
die leerders waar by ‘n kamp/buitelug-uitstappie
hoekom hulle hulself as ‘n prefek sal beskou,
bekendgemaak is.
Goeie
sportgeleenthede ens.…… alles by die skool as ‘n uitgebreide/verlengde dag. In
kort, u laai u kind af by die skool, ons bied ‘n volledige diens teen ‘n
Hierdie is ‘n wonderlike
Verkope
word by/deur die finansiële kantoor hanteer.

Mag u almal ‘n geseënde week geniet!

school and we will arrange for replacements.
The
following is an extract from a newsletter in early February 2010 by the
headmaster of a very good local neighbouring school in the Helderberg ---
please read, very interesting, and very true:
You
have probably heard me quote Rob Evans, a well-known American educational
psychologist who says that ‘Increasingly, parents worldwide are trying to
prepare the path for their children, rather than to prepare their children for
the path’ In other words, parents are attempting to smooth the way for their
children, and attempting to influence the environment in which their children
operate, instead of readying their children to cope with what life throws at
them.
This
thinker picks up on a common theme. The belief is that people (and young people
in our case in schools) have to face their difficulties, and that they can
overcome their difficulties if they are taught to manage themselves through
accepting their responsibilities and managing their lives in a disciplined way.
Children need to be taught these things and they need to have them
role-modelled for them.
Young
people cannot learn to face their own difficulties if they are being bailed out
by parents at every turn. I write this because as a school we are finding that
some parents are not allowing their children to work out their problems for
themselves, be they conflict with a peer or a teacher, the disappointment of a
non-selection for a team or a position, or a disciplinary consequence.
Inappropriate parental intervention simply sends the wrong message to the young
person: it’s OK because my mother or father will sort it out.
Naturally,
there is a place for parental involvement. This is a logical part of the
teacher – parent - student triangle, without which education cannot happen
properly. But this involvement should be as a last resort only, once the young
person has attempted to solve the problem themselves.
May
I suggest the following as a guideline for parents when a son or daughter
brings home a problem?
Listen
carefully to your child when they speak to you about a problem, and try to
guide them to their own solution, rather than seeking the solution yourself.
Remember that you are dealing with a single perspective (theirs), and that it
may not necessarily be the full picture. Support the school (within reason).
Failure to do so in front of your child can cause a fundamental breakdown in
trust between child and school, and the only loser will be the young
person. Encourage your son or daughter
to take any necessary steps themselves (for example, going to a teacher to
explain their point of view).

24 Februarie 2010
is, is reeds in kennis gestel.
minute onderhoude m.b.t. u kind se akademiese vordering.
FONDSINSAMELING:
Dankie, baie dankie!

2.
Binnenshuise hokkie: Die wonderlike wen-rekord gaan steeds voort. Maandagaand
se semi-finaal teen Rhenish was ‘n

17 February 2010
What
a SPORT week! All the teams and groups
are busy with FULL programmes:
1.
Athletics: It was a joy to watch the little ones (U/7 – U/9) at Beaumont last week,
and good to have participated at the competitive meeting at SWPS. The following
athletes excelled at the Helderberg Meeting (27 schools) on Saturday: Ansoné
Lombard, Gustav Kirstein, Chadé Levendal, Edan Shields, Werner Du Toit, Ghite
Nel, Nico Claassen, Eugene Du Toit, Carmen Kirstein, Lésa Truter, Christiaan De
Wet, Manuel Rass.
2.Mini-cricket:
Our young ‘Proteas’ played their first
game on Wednesday. The visiting school arrived late and with a team of over-age
boys, but we played and enjoyed. Interesting times in South Africa nowadays.
3.
Cricket: The U/11A’s and U/13B’s enjoyed very good wins. The U/13A’s and
U/11B’s tried hard but lost to better opposition. It was lovely to have played
a match at the excellent oval at the College – scenic and pretty. Mention is
made of special efforts by Wernher Bock, Jòvan Snyman and Manuel Rass.
4.
Indoor Hockey: The girls continued their unbeaten streak and beat
Applewood 6 – 0.
A
really talented group of HL girls.
5.Tennis:
The team played trials. We are awaiting the results.
6.BENBEL
Interschool athletics at Beaumont Primary this weekend: Most of the field
events take place on Friday 19 February with the track events taking precedence
on Saturday morning 20 February.
Programmes with all the information will be given to the athletics team later
this week. Best wishes to all. Parents are most welcome to come and support.
This is probably the best athletics competition in which we participate and a
great opportunity for our athletes. Always remember that we are the smallest
school there on the day against the three big ( 1 000+) Somerset West schools.
Our
sincere condolences to Christiaan ( Gr 3A1) and the Paulsen family with the passing away of Mrs Paulsen. May you
experience the presence and love of our Father in this sad time
Remember
the two slightly earlier school closing times:
1. This Friday 19 February at 12:00 for all
learners (Grades R to 7). The reasons
are twofold: the staff are all involved in a Friday breakaway and leave school
as a group just after 13:00. Secondly the BENBEL field athletics events at
Beaumont the afternoon.
2. Next week Thursday 25 February at 12:30
for all in Grades 4 to 7. The times for
Grades R to 3 remain the same. Reason: the launching of the 130 year birthday
programme.
A
very special thank you to Mariaan Herbert (chairlady) and the dedicated team of
the Helderberg Afrikaanse Dames Dinamiek for the commitment and support towards
the MOOMPI project this year. They will also be donating funds to help our HL
moompi meet the needs of learners who really need attention and care. The
Helderbaai Gemeente is also supporting the MOOMPI project.
Thank
you to the parents who make telephone calls to the SPORT and CULTURE offices.
We requested that you do so during the two breaks, and not other times, and the
response and co-operation from parents has been good and one of understanding.
Sport
and playgrounds: We are very satisfied with the progress of the fields after
the installation of the irrigation system last year. We shall soon be enclosing
the pump station area in the interest of safety. We trust that the fields will
look very good and in prime condition by the end of this year. We have a team
monitoring the re-construction process and thus ensuring the correct use of
water, topsoil and fertilizer procedures.
Parents
who volunteered to help with PTA activities:
1. The approximately 96 parents who
indicated that they would like to help at the two International Evenings in
June received letters last week
regarding an information session next week Wednesday 24 February at
18:30 in the school hall. Thank you.
Please remember to attend. We look forward to getting started with all
the interesting planning around this great project.
2. We need approximately 20 mothers to volunteer
their services at the morning tea as table hosts on the morning of Saturday 17
April at the Elsabe Aldrich / Arno Jordaan function. Please contact
Marina at reception or Alrika at the Culture Office as soon as possible.
We really appreciate your assisting us.
3. We need approximately 12 mothers to
volunteer their services at the early lunch function for former teachers and
friends of the school on Wednesday 12 May. Please contact Marina at reception
or Tertia Morris as soon as possible. We
really appreciate.
4. DIARIZE: Friday evening 14 May – The
annual HL GAMES EVENING. We shall liaise with all our parent volunteers via the
first newsletter of the new term.
FUNDRAISER:
A very BIG thank you to all for the help, support, assistance and patience
regarding this annual project. We
appreciate! Just two weeks left. The last day for the forms and money to be at
school is on Wednesday morning 3 March.
If
possible, remember to support, our choir learners (25% of the school) at the
Waterstone Spur next week Tuesday 23 February (17:00 to 21:00). All funds
raised in this manner will be used to assist us managing the various culture
evenings next term which we know that parents and friends of the school will
enjoy.
The
names of the head prefects (head boy/head girl and several head prefects) for
2010 will be announced at assembly on Tuesday 9 March and in the newsletter on
Wednesday 10 March. This year we are changing the format slightly as regards
senior leadership with several learners who will be receiving badges and tasks
associated with being a head prefect. More learners will be given an
opportunity to lead and to grow. The way/process in which we choose our learner
leadership team will be briefly explained to you in the 10 March newsletter.
Thank
you to our Grades 6 and 7 learners who attended the very successful and most
enjoyable Valentine's dance in the school
hall on Friday night. This event was hosted by our Learner Council, Mrs Lötz and Mr Le Roux. Well done! The
learner council is raising funds as they will be involved in a charity drive next term. We are proud of this
new initiative by our senior learners.
Congratulations
to Alexander Flemming who participated in a Free State Archery Championship
this past weekend and came first. He bettered his own WP record (Field) by 26
points. He also shot two qualifying figures for his national colours.
17 Februarie 2010
1.
gevaar by die Helderberg-byeenkoms (27 skole) verlede Saterdag: Ansoné Lombard,
Gustav Kirstein, Chadé Levendal, Edan Shields, Werner Du Toit, Ghite Nel, Nico
Claassen, Eugene Du Toit, Carmen Kirstein, Lésa Truter, Christiaan De Wet,
Manuel Rass.
2.
Interessante tye deesdae in Suid-Afrika!
3.Krieket:
6 – 0. HL het voorwaar ‘n talentvolle groep dogters!
5.Tennis:
Die span het proewe gespeel. Ons wag nog vir die uitslae.
6.BENBEL
interskole atletiek by Beaumont hierdie
Onthou
die twee vroeër skoolsluitingstye:
1. Hierdie komende Vrydag 19 Februarie om
12:00 vir alle leerders (graad R tot 7):
die rede is tweevoudig: die personeel is betrokke by
‘n spanbou-sessie en verlaat die skool as
‘n groep net na 13:00.
Tweedens
die BENBEL veld-items vind plaas by Beaumont.
2. Volgende week Donderdag 25 Februarie om
12:30 vir alle graad 4- tot 7-leerders. Die tye vir Graad R tot 3 bly
dieselfde. Die rede: die loods van ons 130-verjaarsdagprogram.
‘n
Baie spesiale dankie aan me.
besproeiingstelsel geïnstalleer is.
interessante projek.
Marina by Ontvangs of Alrika by die
Kultuurkantoor so gou as moontlik. Ons sal dit baie waardeer.
Woensdag 12 Mei. Kontak Marina by ontvangs of Tertia Morris so gou as moontlik.
Ons waardeer u samewerking.
4. DAGBOEK: Vrydagaand 14 Mei – die
jaarlikse HL-SPELETJIESAAND.
Hierdie geleentheid
was aangebied deur die Leerderraad. Marisca Lötz en Stevie le Roux - welgedaan!
Die leerderraad samel fondse in aangesien hulle betrokke gaan wees by ‘n
liefdadigheidsprojek volgende kwartaal. Ons is trots op hierdie nuwe inisiatief
deur ons senior leerders.
Baie
10 February 2010
The
District Mail of Thursday 18 February will feature some special Hendrik Louw
news and pictures – be sure to get a few copies for the archives. The newspaper
will feature the name of every learner. We thank the staff of the Mail for
their kindness and support of the school this year.
The
new HL T-shirt celebrating our birthday will be issued to all learners in the
week of 22 to 24 February. Classes will be called to the school hall in groups
and every child will receive a shirt. Please note: These shirts may only be
worn to school on a Friday, no other days. Please do not allow your child to
wear after hours this year. Next year they can wear as they like, but not to
school. This is a project for this year only ---- we rely on the 100%
cooperation of all, THANK YOU. The first day for the whole school (staff and
learners) to wear the shirt is on Friday 26 February.
On
Thursday 25 February school closes earlier: the grades R, 1 & 2 learners go
home at the normal time of 12:00 / 12:15. The learners in grades 3 to 7 leave
the school at 12:30, NO sport on the afternoon. At about 11:30 on the day the
whole school moves out to the pavilions for a 45 minute programme of interhouse
fun involving learners and staff (Lourensfodd – Morgenster – Vergelegen teams).
Please make timeous arrangements for your child w.r.t. aftercare if applicable.
Parents are reminded to ensure that learners do not loiter around the school in
the afternoons if they are not busy with xtra-murals. Parents who are possibly
free are welcome to pop in on the 25th to observe HL having fun.
We
thank the grade 1 & 2 parents for an excellent attendance at last week’s
two 75 minute family picnics on the playing fields – wonderful to have spent
time together.
Correction: The Waterstone SPUR night is
next week Tuesday 23 February and not Monday 15 February. Thank you for support.
A very BIG please if you make internet
payments to the school: you must provide us with a reference as the amount of
unknown deposits is growing and it could become unpleasant if we say no payment
received, and you maintain that payment was made.
For example: music/name child/surname,
school fees/name child/surname, Orange/name child/surname, books/name
child/surname, etc ……
Security: We would like you to inform us if
you know of someone (e.g. a retired person) who can assist the school in the
afternoons from about 13:00 to 15:30 by being visible in the passages / near
the gates / places where learners cases are / etc. as we find that from time to
time an undesirable person enters the building with the intent to steal, or
other. In the interest of better safety, visible security and the protection of
our property, we ask you to liaise with us if you can assist or advise.
Parents: a very special 2010 Hendrik Louw
calender - recommended for all our homes.
We have placed a whole school photo of all learners
standing in a semi-circle around the 2010 logo which was painted on the field
as the PHOTO on the calender.
Calenders sell for R25 each. This a piece of
memorablia with special meaning for your child
You can order as many as you like. If
interested, please send the money to the class teacher and you will receive the
calender with a day or three.
Enquiries: Alrika Serfontein (Culture
Office) - only between the 2 breaks

Ouers: ‘n Baie spesiale 2010 Hendrik Louw kalender –

With
the first term already into its fourth week we are very aware of the quicker
and busier tempo with all the extramural activities starting to kick in.
Tomorrow night sees our athletes on the track for the first time this year and
next week Wednesday our juniors also take part in their first races of the year. We express a big thank you to our
grade R and 1 parents / families who attended the very enjoyable grade picnics
– an amazing sight to see children playing, teachers relaxing and parents
mingling informally. Tonight it is the turn of the grade 2’s. We have
focussed our ‘parents at the school
after hours’ endeavours with our junior learners first. The seniors
turn will encompass a winter code sport get-together on Tues 16 March. Please
diarize.
For
our families who love to spoil themselves once a week with an eat-out
somewhere: please join the school at the
Waterstone Spur on Monday night 15 February. It is always great to see the
families of the school at the Spur enjoying a meal together. The proceeds
generated go to the International Evenings which we host in June.
Some
of our senior choir members will be

27 January 2010
Thank
you to the parents who attended last night’s very successful meeting with
teachers in the classrooms. We really appreciate your visiting the school. In
today’s world the communication between teacher – parent – learner – school is
very important. Parents are reminded that when teachers start assessing
learners in the next few days the minimum levels / codes needed to pass have
been raised at all schools in the country by the Education Department as from
January 2010. This information was given to parents in writing last year. We
use this opportunity to assure our parents that Hendrik Louw benchmarks the
performance of our learners against some of the best standards of which we are
aware – internationally and locally. It is important to us that our learners
not only do well at junior levels, but improve as they go through high school
and hopefully further studies because of the very good basic instruction
received here at your primary school. This is undoubtedly the case at the
present time.
I
again use this opportunity to compliment your ( the school’s) governing
council who ensures that the school has competent
teachers and is financially and academically sustainable.
Invitation
to our parents with business connections: On Thursday 25 February the two front
and the two back pages of the District Mail will have a special Hendrik Louw
cover as recognition of the school’s 130th birthday. We have ordered a 1 000
copies and will be giving a free copy to every HL family on the day for you to
keep as a memento of your school. If you would like to extend good wishes to
the school in the newspaper in return for us acknowledging the name of you
company – please send an e-mail to the school :
hendrikl@mweb.co.za : and we shall contact you.
A
fee will be levied to help cover the
costs of the endeavour. Thank you for supporting us in this regard.
SPORT:
The attendance at practices is good – thank you, parents, for assisting.
1. The first cricket matches commence on 9
February.
Last
year our 1st team and the U/11’s were of the best teams in the Helderberg.
Let’s trust that this good record and success continues.
2. The first athletics meetings start next
week 4 and 6 February.
NB: Last night all parents received information
packages. Please read and keep. Parents who were unable to attend – your
package was given to your child today. Please sign the reply slip and return to
the class teacher tomorrow – thank you.
Next
week’s newsletter: some good news with regard to a few of the 130 year
celebrations
Moompi
Project: We are in need of donations of second hand clothes for the shop. We
have a lot of children in need of second hand clothes. Please support this
project of helping others by sending used school uniforms to reception. Thank
you.
27 Januarie 2010
Baie
leerder – skool baie belangrik. Ouers
ongetwyfeld die geval by HL.
Ek
voortduur.
2. Die 1ste atletiekbyeenkoms is volgende
week op 4 en 6 Februarie.
NB – gisteraand het alle ouers inligtingspakette
ontvang.
Volgende
week se nuusbrief: goeie nuus m.b.t. ‘n paar van die 130-jaar vieringe.
Moompi-projek:
Baie
dankie.
20 January 2010
Day
One News: We were very happy with the nearly 800 learners who arrived for
school earlier than normal on the day – neat, prepared, ready. Work in the
classrooms started shortly after assembly. It was a privilege to walk into
classrooms and greet learners, especially the
‘little ones’ and we sincerely
hope the HL year will be an enriching experience for your child/ren.
Wednesdays:
The Weekly Newsletter is given to the learners every Wednesday of the school
year – without exception. This letter and a whole lot of other very interesting
HL activities, news and photos are also available on the school’s very good
WEBsite at: PLEASE read every week.
Thank you, we appreciate.
School
fee accounts: The first accounts for the year will be given out to learners
this week. Parents who pay fees in advance or per debit order do not receive
accounts. We again remind parents to be
faithful with regard to your child’s financial commitments.
Parent
Meeting: As informed in last week’s newsletter we again remind you of the very
important 1s parent meeting of the year with your child’s teacher in the
classroom. It is important that your child knows that you know where he/she
sits and with whom and that you have met the teacher. Note the parking
arrangements that were given. Tuesday 26 January:
TIMES:
18:15 --- parents of English / Afrikaans
learners in grades R – 3,
19:00 --- parents of English / Afrikaans learners
in grades 4 – 7.
Fundraiser:
we know that times are still tough after the 2009 recession year but we appeal
to you to support your child and the school with the traditional and always
successful project which we do only ONCE a year in February -- forms will be given to learners on Wednesday
27 January and you can be assured that the learners will know what to do – your
support is much appreciated as the R100 000 raised is crucially important to
maintain and upgrade the excellent technology in our classrooms, of the best of
any school in the region.
Music
fees: Learners who paid their R100 deposit in 2009 are reminded to pay the
music fee on/before Friday 29 January 2010.
CLOTHING

20 Januarie 2010
Dag
skool – vroeër as normaalweg, netjies, voorbereid en gereed.
webblad - LEES DIT ASB. elke week – baie
dankie, ons waardeer.
Skoolgeldrekeninge:

Bring u eie vleis, ens. Die Voortrekkers

enriching and memorable experience for everyone. We trust that you enjoyed the
Christmas holidays and the family time together. 2010 is going to be a very special
year for all South Africans. We have prepared well for the year and teachers
have already started working with learners on this 1st day: tomorrow sees a
normal timetable at the school w.r.t. all periods and learning areas. Encourage
your child to work well, with commitment, and to pursue good study habits as
from day one. The school’s 1st term extra-mural programme starts next week
Monday 18 January.
Attached
are the following notes for your attention:
1. The extra-mural programme. Please ensure
faithful attendance by your child.
2. The very important DATA information form.
We ask you to complete and to return to the class teacher this Friday. We need
this information should we need to contact you in cases of emergency, sickness,
accidents etc – please give us the correct information as it is important we
that be able to contact a parent at the right numbers in cases where your child
needs you. Thank you.
Please
diarize the following date --- the 1st parent : teacher meeting of the year. We
will really value your attendance at this short meeting (approx 40 min) in the
classroom of your child. Times have been so structured that parents with two+
children can attend both meetings.

Should
you ever need to liaise with a teacher / senior member of staff: make
appointments via the secretaries and we will accommodate you as soon as
possible as parent – teacher – school communication and relationships are very
important and much valued by us. No unexpected visits to a teacher or to the
classroom of your child, parents / visitors must always first report to
reception.
School
fees 2010: please take the right decision in the best interest of your child
and pay your fees promptly as requested. We need your fees to manage the school

good staff, well maintained infrastructure, a healthy learning environment,
safety etc ----- please help us to keep all of the above for your child by
settling your school fee a/c – we THANK YOU for faithfulness. Be assured of our

13 Januarie 2010
‘n

1ste kwartaal buitemuurse program begin volgende week opMaandag 18 Januarie.
Meegaande is die volgende vir u aandag:
1. Die buitemuurse program. Maak seker van u kind se gereelde
bywoning.
Ons benodig hierdie inligting indien ons u moet
kontak in geval van nood, siekte, ongelukke, ens. – verskaf asb. (in duidelike
Ons
sal u teenwoordigheid baie waardeer by hierdie kort vergadering (ongeveer 40
min) in die klaskamer van u kind. Tye is so uiteengesit dat ouers met twee of
meer kinders albei vergaderings kan bywoon.
Dinsdag 26 Januarie
18:15 --- Eng. en Afr. Ouers van leerders
in graad R, 1, 2 & 3.
19:00 --- Eng. en Afr. Ouers van leerders
in graad 4, 5, 6 & 7.
1. Ongelukkig GEEN parkering word toegelaat
op die sportvelde hierdie jaar nie. Ons
2. Hierdie vergaderings is slegs vir ouers.

Indien
u nodig het om ‘n opvoeder / senior
personeellid te kontak of te kom sien, maak asb. ‘n afspraak via die

Skoolgeld

skoolgeld getrou soos versoek.
netheid, goeie personeel, goeie infrastruktuur, ‘n gesonde leeromgewing,
